Summer School
The Derby West Indian Community Association Summer School is an annual education. Its run for four weeks every August at Derby West Indian Community Centre, in exploring different cultures through food, language, storytelling, art and days out across Derby and beyond. In 2025 the theme was Media Magic, where young people imagine themselve three weeks in Jamaica, West Africa and Japan. Every Friday ended with Freedom Fridays, where young people chose how to spend the afternoon. Ages 8 to 16. Funded by BBC Children in Need.
This year Summer School 2026 runs 3rd to 28th August. More information to follow.


Rooted & Radiant | Hair Self Love
Your relationship with your hair is one of the longest you’ll ever have.


Connect with Nature
Funded by BBC Children in Need, this two-year youth-led project gave young people at DWICA an allotment plot at Normanton Park to design, plant and manage themselves.
They grew food and cooked it for the community. They built a wild area for wildlife. Derbyshire Wildlife Trust and Green Thyme supported them throughout.



Cultural Roots Carnival Troupe (CRCT)
Cultural Roots Carnival Troupe (CRCT) is part of Derby West Indian Community Association, CRCT where it hosts workshops for carnival costume design, making and music and dance rehearsals. CRCT is the central part of the annual Derby Caribbean Carnival.
There is an admission for the trouple on a yearly basis.
