DERBY WEST INDIAN COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION - MISSION STATEMENT

The Derby West Indian Community Association, constituted in 1962 was established to provide social, cultural, educational and recreational activities for its membership, which includes West Indian, African and people of West Indian/African heritage, their relatives and friends.

The organisation established a centre in 1981 to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of DERBY and the neighbourhood without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions. This is by working with local authorities and other voluntary organisations and the inhabitants in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interest of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation. The object of which is to improve the conditions of life for the said inhabitants and in particular members of the community of West Indian heritage.

In doing so the Association is committed to taking positive steps to help redress the effects of unfair discrimination and disadvantage in our society and to make EQUAL OPPORTUNITY an integral feature in all its activities.
